Staying here is best if you have a car, as the Ryokan/Inn has been around for a while; the private onsen and the Japanese meals at Kagaria are top‑tier, especially the chef’s dishes, which reflect my half Japanese American background and deep knowledge of Japanese cuisine. However, the kitchen exhaust system needs fixing because the food prep smell lingered in the hallway.

The place sits right next to Notoro Lake, which is a huge plus.
