The spot is great and the restaurant food is good, but when we checked out at 7 am there were no staff present—only the watchman, who wouldn’t move our luggage to the parking lot, wouldn’t accept card payments, and demanded cash.

The people who run the place are extremely nice and helpful, and everything else was good.

The location was the best part, but our two‑night stay at Hotel Hilltop, Varkala, was disappointing. The rooms were poorly maintained and lacked basic facilities. Even though we booked an AC room, the air conditioner never worked; we were told repeatedly that a technician would arrive, but nobody did. By night we learned that repairs were impossible, so we slept without AC in very uncomfortable conditions. All we got were apologies, no real solution or explanation. Cleanliness was below average and the washrooms were not well kept. Overall, it was a mediocre experience and not worth the money. The only positives were the location and a staff member named Binny, who was helpful and courteous. I would have given zero stars if that were possible, but I gave one star because it’s the minimum.

I liked the view you get when you step out of the hotel, but I didn’t like the rooms, the bed, or the pillow materials; the rooms were old. Also, a party was going on right outside the hotel, open with loud bass that hurt your heart; we couldn’t sleep until 12. I asked them to lower the volume, but they seemed uninterested since the place was leased to hotel operators only, so profit over customer satisfaction, I guess.
