The hotel sits in a stunning spot overlooking Ullswater, and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, though a few areas of the property could use some tender loving care.

“Shorter stay would have been preferable”

I enjoyed the breakfast and bar meals, the great lake‑side views, and the walkable grounds, and the reception team promptly arranged a room change after an unsatisfactory first night. However, I didn’t receive the luxury room advertised, the bathroom plumbing was problematic, and the high bath was only suitable for fit guests, though a step aid was provided in the new room.

“A beautiful location in a wonderful house that could be beautiful. In need of some TLC.”

The location is fabulous with amazing views, but the hotel needs some updating, a fresh coat of paint, and deeper cleaning, and I was shocked by the extra charges at breakfast.

Glorious location and gardens. Lovely staff - nothing was too much trouble. Extremely comfortable. Morning coffee !!
