“Friendly family hotel , great value”

It was a great family hotel in a nice small town close to the motorways. Basic but very comfy beds and great friendly staff. Leana and Leanne (not sure of the spelling) couldn't be friendlier or more helpful; nothing was too much trouble. Good food and wine at very reasonable prices.

The owner was very kind and helpful, but the place operates without a reception or on‑site breakfast even though the nightly rate is barely cheaper than a regular hotel; there wasn’t a single power outlet in the room, so I couldn’t charge my phone. The breakfast was a pitiful affair at a bakery half a kilometre away—€12.50 for only jam and two slices of meat, with any extra request costing extra. Compared with a hotel buffet it offered little for the same price.

“Für eine Zwischenübernachtung geeignet.”

We arrived very late and a very friendly lady gave us the check‑in code over the phone; the building is an old timber house with low ceilings, and room 5 felt a bit cramped for two people. A low beam near the bathroom entrance meant tall guests had to watch their heads. The room sits above the main road on a bend where you can see countless trucks and buses with trailers in the morning, while it’s fairly quiet at night, and you can place things on the windowsill and sip coffee while watching traffic. There was no fridge, but you could make coffee in the hallway. For a one‑night stay, with quiet night traffic and an early departure, that was fine. We were surprised to find two empty mineral‑water bottles left on the table next to two fresh glasses. Otherwise everything was very clean. The mattress was a bit too soft for me, though my husband liked it. We loved the brand‑new shower room with sink and toilet; the shower, with multiple jets and a non‑slip floor, was a highlight, and all the little bathroom essentials were generously provided, which made up for other shortcomings. Since we were just passing through, the room suited us well. I’d recommend a short walk around the nearby castle and checking out the large bronze deer a few metres away. Rewe is literally around the corner from the day‑care home, and opposite there’s a big‑and‑small retail shop with a butcher for snacks. The proximity to the highway and the CNG station is great. The only downside was that the blackout curtains didn’t work very well.

The location is fantastic, right in a village – less than 3 km to the motorway, 5 km to Alsfeld. The restaurant is excellent with large portions. The host is helpful. Breakfast had to be taken 400 m from the hotel (but it was excellent!), and there was a bit of traffic noise in the morning.
