Located in Redondo Beach, California, Shade Hotel is the first luxury boutique hotel in the area. Situated 6.5 miles from LAX, it offers sweeping views of the Pacific coastline from Palos Verdes to Malibu. Nestled between the King Harbor Marina and the bicycle strand, Shade Hotel features gorgeous rooms, a restaurant, and bar, with soft greens, tranquil blues, and exotic woods creating a serene atmosphere.

The hotel sits in a convenient area and the interior feels modern; I paid extra for a room with a view of the marina, which was lovely. The pool is too small, and it would help to have more than just a restaurant—perhaps a separate spot for drinks. The mini‑bar is pricey.

The location was good, but the room felt dated, very humid, and dark. There was no espresso machine and the overall vibe was underwhelming.

The room was spacious, had a cool edgy vibe, and was fully stocked with snacks and booze for purchase. It was almost damp upon arrival, though that detail was subtle enough that I didn’t think much of it. However, the night’s sleep was ruined by a distinct mold smell; under the bed we found mold spots and other unpleasant stains.
