“Gracious hotel, wonderful ambience, great location”
The hotel is a gorgeous period property full of wonderful decor, an absolute delight. The location is fabulous, the terrace beautiful, the dining room has magnificent chandeliers, the rooftop restaurant is great, and the garden at the entrance is lush. We loved our balcony overlooking the lake, airy and relaxing. We arrived at 6AM and the hotel kindly gave us a small garden room to relax in until official check‑in time – that really made our day! There is a fab birdcage and a resident Labrador who is an absolute sweetie (though he needs a very thorough wash). The house staff were smart in their uniforms and red berets, very friendly and accommodating. The only thing I could not dislike was that the reception staff could be a bit more responsive to requests – they say ‘yes’ and then do nothing, for example they didn’t bring the laundry or make our reservation at Upre. They seemed busy being busy rather than getting things done, but that is a small gripe. The laundry was collected the next day, and despite no reservation we did get in at Upre and had excellent cocktails and delicious food. Tipping feels like an ongoing imposition, especially when you’re trying to save up small change – we would much prefer hotels that have a tip box you can add to at the end of your stay.
