Civic Center Lodge / Lake Merritt BART

“Meets expectations. Great ammenity like full sized fridge and microwave for the price.”

The room had a fridge, AC, microwave, power outlets, and towels, but the front desk demanded a $100 cash deposit from every guest and was not friendly.

“Not going to stay here again, there's plenty of options where they actually can treat you as a human”

It’s close to BART, so getting out is fairly easy, but the walk to the station isn’t the safest. The hotel looks cheap, yet it’s still too pricey for what it offers. The staff were very rude and unhelpful, the premises were poorly kept, the location was bad, and the rooms were noisy and dirty—like sleeping in a cardboard box where you can hear the freeway and people being mugged outside.

“Very rude and not pleasant”

I had a terrible experience; nothing about the visit was pleasant, and every staff member was rude and mean.

I was judged and mistreated at check‑in; she kept bringing up a past bad experience with someone else and it was very difficult. I felt bad for her, but it wasn’t her past that mattered. It was late, she canceled, and she insisted I had to notify her in advance—this felt discriminatory. I booked a room and was met with judgment, which made the trip costly and left me with nowhere to stay. It was a disturbing experience.

“I never got to stay they denied my check in”

Nothing positive at all; the staff were rude and refused to let me check in.
