“山形に行ったら山形弁を聞きたい”

The staff were genuinely kind, and the front‑desk clerk who checked us in had a great sense of humor, which made me happy to finally hear some Yamagata dialect on my trip. The room’s climate control was too cold and, because it wasn’t a standard air‑conditioner, I couldn’t adjust it myself.

The staff were helpful, drinks were free from 16.00 to 18.00, and beer and coffee were available all day. No further notes.

The Japanese breakfast was an experience! My room, with living space, was very roomy. I would choose this hotel again just for the on‑site public onsen.

Dinner and breakfast were good. The outdoor bath was very small, the whole setup was basic, and I had a European‑style room with a tiny window overlooking the back façade of a dirty building. Kaminoyamaonsen offered no appeal; the town was sad and the castle was small, while other onsen towns were livelier.

I was able to use the private bath and relaxed slowly. Nothing in particular was problematic.
