The Balch feels like an old‑world charm wrapped in a Western vibe, offering a taste of the past while still meeting modern needs; everything is taken care of, leaving nothing to be desired.
“Lovely historical property nicely refurbished”
This historic property is lovely, with a friendly owner and a great breakfast, though the rooms feel a bit dated.
“I've been to five hotels in four states in two weeks. This tops them all”
The hostess is amazing, an angel! I thoroughly enjoyed the music from the musician while dining in the glow of Mt Hood; he belted out some real toe‑tappers. The establishment oozes chic as soon as you walk through the main door, reflecting a lot of hard work. There’s also a 24‑hour Lauderette just around the corner.
“The owner and staff were amazing! I am planning a return trip to this getaway location!”
The breakfast was very nice, healthy, and free of pre‑packaged items, fitting the wonderful ambience of this historic hotel; the grounds are beautiful, providing many outdoor seating spots. A larger shelf or small table for toiletries next to the bathroom sink would have been convenient, but I’m stretching to find a flaw in this historic building.
“One of my absolute favorite places I’ve ever stayed”
An absolute gem—very comfortable, gracious hosting, and truly exceptional food.
