“A lovingly preserved country house in a lovely location”

I stayed here many years ago and it needed a major overhaul; the new owners have transformed the old house while preserving its period charm, the food was excellent, the wine list was well curated for all tastes and every bottle could be bought by the glass, even the pricier ones, making it a warm, welcoming country‑house gem, with friendly staff, a well presented room, and a relaxed atmosphere.

“A short nostalgic trip in a v nice hotel. We would use them again.”

Breakfast was lovely with a wide selection, the room was large, heating was adequate and easy to control, the garden was nice—though the weather was awful—staff were efficient and friendly, but we’re both elderly and a grab handle would have helped in the shower over the bath.

The historic building and its gardens are stunning, and the evening dinner is definitely worth trying.
