“Great for Old Town”
The hotel felt more traditional than I expected, and the boutique vibe made it feel quirky. It was located about a hundred yards from the park on the edge of the old town and roughly 8 minutes from the main square, with plenty of bars and restaurants along the way. A bus stop was just yards from the front door and trams were around the corner. The bathroom was clean and modern, the room and beds were comfortable, and there were sockets by the bed. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a quiet garden at the back and a spa, which we didn’t use, but they’re there if you want to relax. They offer free daily events like a walking tour and vodka tasting, but none fit our schedule. There are many restaurants and bars of every price range and vibe nearby, so the hard part is deciding where to go. The Artist Cocktail Bar was a relaxed spot we liked, especially since it was probably the closest to the hotel, for a nightcap or two. I would definitely stay at Amber again. The lift was extremely slow; we were on the top, third floor, so we took the stairs down because it was much quicker, especially since we’re in our late 60s. We didn’t like having to climb three floors after a night out, even if it would have been faster. The elevator sometimes shows the third floor as –1, which confused us on the first night. Breakfast was okay, with limited hot options like scrambled eggs, frankfurters, and a few other items, but the continental/cereal/fruit selection was decent enough to start the morning. None of these were deal breakers.
