The spot’s spot on – just a stroll from train and bus stops, the harbor, the art museum, and a bunch of eateries nearby. But the building itself, Chungking Mansion, felt off; the vibe, the cramped lobby, and the folks at the front desk left me and my family uneasy.

Nice location close to shopping, MRT, and bus stops. The building feels crowded, damp and stinky, and the lift takes ages to arrive.

Room was tidy, price decent, and the spot was good for traveling. The problems all stem from Chungking Mansion: lower floors are a chaotic mix of vendors, money changers and eateries, which most guests find stressful. Only a handful of elevators serve your floor, so you often wait 5‑10 minutes, and if you have luggage the stairwell isn’t ideal. Most rooms sit between floors 9‑16. The main block is dirty, run‑down, with trash piles, stains, water damage, and even a rat spotted in the less busy stair areas. These are all Chungking Mansion issues, not the Joyeous guesthouse.
