Renovated in 2025, Hotel New Wakasa delivers a modern ryokan feel steps from Todaiji Temple and Nara Park. Each uniquely designed room blends tatami flooring, futon bedding, and optional private open‑air baths, saunas, or cold plunges. Guests enjoy free Wi‑Fi, luggage storage, rooftop terrace views of Todaiji and Mt. Wakakusa, and a traditional kaiseki dinner highlighting seasonal Nara seafood and vegetables.

The building was clean and welcoming, with spacious rooms that feature tatami floors which, around dinnertime, are converted into real beds with futons. The dinner and breakfast were truly outstanding, plentiful and varied, all in classic Japanese style. The onsen is small but well maintained. The staff were courteous and helpful. The location is convenient, just a short walk from Nara Park. The price per night is a bit high.
