“Never again.....Worst hotel I have ever seen.”

The gentleman at reception was nice and polite, as was the bar person who served my meal; the food in the bar was decent. The hotel stairs are dangerous when you reach the 2nd floor—the stair carpet hasn’t been vacuumed in ages, and the stairs at the top of the 2nd floor angle in a squint direction, making them hazardous. There were numerous doors to pass through before more stairs, which was ridiculous. When I opened the door to my room, I was shocked by the scabby windows and hanging materials; a “do not open window” sign was taped onto the filthy window, with the handle loose and awaiting repair—utter nonsense. The bathroom sink was filthy under the bowl, the windows hadn’t been cleaned in years, and the walls were covered in disgusting stains. The shower head dribbled water so weakly that I couldn’t rinse shampoo from my hair. This place is only fit for desperate people needing a bed and shower in Montrose; even a working man who just needs a bed and shower would likely be unhappy. I didn’t sleep a wink because of an off‑and‑on noise that sounded like an air con but wasn’t coming from my room; it was slightly quieter with the bathroom door closed, so it may have been from the next room. Back at the bar, it was far too dark, dingy, and the seats were at an awkward height for eating off the table.

“Great staff”

The staff were incredibly helpful and supportive. The gentleman behind the desk let me order and delivered to my room. I had just come back from three days out at a rally event, so I wasn’t in a shape to sit in the dining area!

Good value after the Highlands. The staff were friendly, the dinner (the small portion menu) was more than adequate, and the breakfast was good. Parking was available. The exterior of the building is a little forbidding, but don’t let that put you off.
