Many tourists want to experience “real Japan,” and as a mid‑term resident I found this stay to be probably the most authentic experience possible. A short ferry ride from Kagoshima city proper, the guesthouse lets you live the slow life surrounded by nature—ideal for relaxing or working remotely, with easy access to the 24‑hour ferry terminal and rental bikes to explore Sakurajima if you wish. I’d like a garbage can in the room and perhaps a shelf in the shower for glasses, etc.

I had a very pleasant stay; the guesthouse is well designed, fostering a friendly atmosphere that makes it easy for travelers to meet and chat. The location is perfect for exploring Sakurajima while staying peaceful and quiet day and night. The owner gave excellent local recommendations and patiently understood me despite my very limited Japanese, and I truly appreciated his kindness and hospitality.

The furniture and interior were stylish and calming, reflecting the owner's passion and love for Sakurajima. If you want dinner on the island, aim to arrive by 18:30 because the shops close early, or buy what you need before the ferry. For those who want a relaxed pace, this place is highly recommended. The owner, a travel enthusiast, not only shares insights about Sakurajima and Kagoshima but also offers suggestions for future trips, expanding my travel list. The ferry terminal is a bit far, so using a taxi is advised for heavy luggage or if walking is difficult, though strolling along the coast feels pleasant. The towels are thick and comfortable, but hanging them from night to morning left a damp, slightly wet smell; thinner or quick‑dry towels would be better. The shampoo could be improved—something island‑derived or eco‑friendly would fit the concept of being kind to both the island and guests. That’s about it, haha.
