“It was amazing, staff are incredible”
A ton of activities, spotlessly clean, and the spot is unbeatable. Nothing to complain about.

This should have been a 5 star review but unfortunately my family's experience was dampened by the behavior of the woman at the front desk (middle-aged, dyed black hair, tragus piercing). My parents were paying more than the price of a hotel for their room, so the least you'd expect is a warm welcome and helpful information at check in. The woman gave us a "yeah?" As if we were hugely putting her out by arriving (the reason became clear as she sprinted to her booze and the bar TV minutes later). She was outrageously rude every time we were forced to speak with her. Rolling her eyes right in front of us, neglecting to tell us important camping information, just a generally appalling person to have representing your company at the front desk. I even noticed her being rude to other customers in front of me, walking away mid-conversation and leaving them confused. We had an issue with a missing lever on our tent window resulting in sweltering heat inside the tent, which we reported when we went up to dinner. She called it in but either neglected to tell us or didn't clearly tell us we needed to walk back to the tent (a fair distance and we were at our dinner reservation time). Nothing was done so the next day on our way to our morning walk we reported it again. She reprimanded us on repeat like we were villains that purposely hadn't been at our tent when the worker had gone all the way there blah blah blah. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I said I hadn't heard that we needed to be there and requested the worker attend our site without us being there. Eyes rolled to the back of her head she apparently called it in again. Hours later we went back and nothing was fixed. I approached another person at the bar to see if we would have better luck. Another long lecture about "she told you to go to the tent" from a person who wasn't even there to know what was said

The historic carriage restoration, the trails, and the organization were great; the staff were super friendly and answered every question. The reception was spotty, but that’s on me for not digging deeper beforehand.

You’re there for the lava tubes, so the lodging is secondary, but sleeping in a railway carriage was a quirky idea. The carriage isn’t wide enough for a comfortable bed, feels cramped, and offers no table tops, wardrobe, or drawers; the sitting area is also quite sparse. That’s the only downside.

A stunning place, the infrastructure is very well organized, the swag tent is comfortable and clean, though it shows some use marks. The meals at the restaurant are very tasty, and breakfast in the bush is delightful.
