“Krásný penzion na zajímavém místě”
Breakfast was good, with cheeses, salamis, tea, coffee and other expected items. The room had a view of the river and the MVE, and while the air‑conditioning was available we chose not to use it, so we could hear the trains on the nearby Prague‑Ostrava line. That didn’t bother us tech and train fans. The staff were helpful, with the nearby kiosk staff arranging accommodation and everything else handled “on your own” without contact with other workers. Towels and soap were supplied in the bathroom, the facilities were fully functional and clean, and the wardrobes were more than large enough. Worth mentioning is the local beer Splávek, available in the kiosk or at a nearby restaurant in Chocně (about 3 km walking on a cycle path). Brandýs nad Orlicí, where there’s a very pleasant café in a restored castle, is about 2 km away on the other side. Local hiking trails (usually up from the valley) are quiet and nice, and Brandýs has many small attractions (rock towers, folk architecture, baroque cisterns, …).
