“off the beaten path boutique hotel w spa and ocean view, good breakfast”
We liked the clean room, the inviting lobby, the welcome drinks, and the warm room. Breakfast, dinner, spa, and drinks were included and the breakfast featured freshly baked croissants, fresh yogurt, and freshly squeezed grape juice. I wished they offered a decaf latte with oat milk, but the front‑desk woman was kind enough to give me milk for my Americano when I asked. Watching a film on the in‑room projector was a novel experience, though I wondered if it was infringing on copyright. The dinner venue was nice but the service was odd: the main course and dessert were served at once, even though many couples took their desserts to the main lobby coffee area. I appreciated the attempt at fine dining, but the menu disappointed me. The octopus appetizer was rubber‑like, the on‑shell shrimp were extremely hard to deshell and eat without proper utensils, the bulgogi rice bowl had too much rice, and the beef quality was poor. I liked the sliced perilla topping, but the dish was overall too dry. The service didn’t feel warm. Perhaps it’s generational, but giving QR codes for Polaroid instructions seemed unhelpful even though we enjoyed snapping photos. There were too many rules and regulations and not enough hospitality. We appreciated the ocean view and spa—though the spa was in another building, so in winter it’s inconvenient to go back and forth in your gown—but I’m not sure I’d return. The rules were inconsistent: the brochure said we had to wear swimsuits, but when we said we hadn’t brought one, they said it was okay not to. I would say warm service is more important than a Dyson hairdryer set in the room. I’d recommend they invest in larger rooms, replace the dirty hallway carpet, add a humidifier, provide a more comfortable bed, and improve the food with a creative menu.
