It was a truly unique experience, the neighborhood was lovely, the home impressive, and the hosts were very very friendly and charismatic.

As a budget traveller I was worried about the 'Luxurious' label, but that turned out to be unfounded. The property sits in a smart, convenient spot yet still has character and domestic comfort. The room was spotless and had everything needed. 'Homestay' fits perfectly. The hosts were welcoming and personable, making me feel at home. Chandigarh is oddly orderly and very green with many parks. It’s architecturally significant and also offers pleasant outdoor spaces like the Rock Garden, plus museums and galleries. Nothing was lacking from my view. Chandigarh has plenty of shops and street food, I didn’t see any upscale dining but I wasn’t looking for that.

The location was pleasant, a bit stuffy but quiet and clean with lovely trees and greenery. The room was very clean. We didn’t know we had to pay in cash. My husband’s card was stolen and this was the end of our India trip, so we had to do a costly bank transfer. The breakfasts didn’t match the description – just small parantha‑type bread, curd and tea or Nescafé. Worse, the owner sat at the table as soon as we left our bedroom and stayed for the whole breakfast, speaking to us with questionable comments about darker skin. We’re a mixed‑race family and it made us uncomfortable. We understand it may be cultural, but as Londoners and tourists it was shocking. The shared space shown in the photos wasn’t available; we only had a mediocre bedroom with harsh lighting and a broken air conditioner. Walking out of the bedroom leads straight into the kitchen, so privacy is minimal.
