Located on a ridge overlooking the northern and central Drakensberg Mountains, Drakensberg Mountain Retreat offers an indoor swimming pool, library, shared lounge area, and conference facilities. Each room features an en-suite bathroom with complimentary toiletries. Guests enjoy home-cooked meals, relax by the pool or in the garden, and access free Wi-Fi in public areas, with nearby attractions including the Amphitheatre Golf Club and Royal Natal National Park.

The setting is quiet, surrounded by beautiful hiking trails, and the dinner was very good. However, the 13 km gravel road is sometimes in poor condition, which hampers excursions during the stay. Breakfast is rather mediocre in comparison, lacking fruit (except on Sunday), and the request for a fried egg was not met.

The view from the mountain top is great, the hiking trail is nice, and the hosts are welcoming in a relaxed environment far from the city. Breakfast was good but needs more fruit variety—only one whole fruit per day is insufficient. The gravel road to the resort is a bit too long and unpleasant.
