The place sits in a beautiful mountain setting, just about two kilometres from Ribeira Grande, and it’s really quiet out there. We had hot water in the bathroom and the Wi‑Fi worked fine. There’s a small shop in the same building and a kitchen we could use, which was handy.

The apartment was huge, spotless and came with everything you’d need, which made the stay comfortable. The only downside was that the owners were hard to get a hold of when we had questions.

The bed was really uncomfortable – our backs still remind us of it – and the host was pretty distant, though her husband was friendlier. The kitchen was dimly lit, which didn’t help the overall feel.
