The owner was tall, handsome, and always ready to help; he negotiated with local car‑hire drivers for us and answered all our questions patiently. We left for Abu Simbel around 4 a.m., and he stayed awake in the garden until he could drop us off at the car. The house had a vacation vibe and was a five‑minute walk from the pier. Breakfast was good, and if you’re heading to Abu Simbel early, you can pack it in the fridge and eat on the road. Dinner was Nubian food made by my mom, which tasted fine. There were two cute kittens and a handsome wolf‑dog. The place is on the west bank, and the ferry to the city doesn’t leave until 7 p.m., so you can’t stay out too late; if you drive or rent a car to go in, the road is very long and in bad shape.
