“Wonderful but hard to find.”

I stayed overnight to simplify a river cruise package while self‑driving; they organized the cruise, which worked great and was an amazing experience. After everyone left, I was mostly alone at the lodge. Overall, it was a fun, relaxing time on the porch of my cabin with the fan on and a book. The only issue was that it was extremely hard to find; note for others: you park at the garden nursery, roughly where the GPS says.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and I loved the peaceful river atmosphere. The firefly cruise was definitely the highlight—such a unique, beautiful experience that felt close to nature. The room was quite basic and the facilities a bit limited, but still comfortable enough for a short stay. Even though WiFi was available, the connection wasn’t strong enough for communication, which was fine—it gave us a good reason to disconnect and enjoy nature instead.

“Heel leuk, relaxte plek, lekker eten en ok lodge.”

I found the place very pleasant and right on the property, so it was easy to get there on my own. We travelled by train from Kota Kinabalu to Beaufort and then took a Grab taxi to Only in Borneo, the spot where all tour groups go for the river cruise and evening tour. Getting from the lodge to Menumbok was a bit tricky, but the manager brought us there for a fee that matched the Grab price. The only downside was the lack of wifi and weak 4G reception.
