Ryokan Tamura

湯畑より少し離れてるのでお部屋では静かに過ごせます 湯畑へは歩いても5分ぐらいです（道中には２箇所階段がありました）

“Amazing traditional ryokan experience.”

Free parking was available, and the ryokan felt traditional. I could use private onsens, and the location let me walk to main attractions while still enjoying a secluded, peaceful vibe. There was also a private dining room. However, some dishes were cold when served, and the heater stopped working in the middle of the night at –5 °C; I was woken by the chill and had to turn it back on, which took a while.

“また宿泊したいです”

The food was delicious, and the rooms were spacious. The hot spring was also close, so I could enjoy both the room and the hot spring sightseeing.

“Good but not the best”

The staff were friendly. I had the option to use two private onsen baths, which were free most of the time, and they had different water types, which was nice. The food was good and the futons were a bit softer than other ryokans, making it easier to sleep. I wish there had been a better description or printed menu for the meals, as we didn’t know what each dish was. The only pillows were buckwheat-filled ones, which made our necks hurt the next day. The yukata provided was a bit dirty and not high quality. No hanten were provided, so I couldn’t walk around the city at night because it was too cold.
