Kasteeltje Hattem, the Netherlands’ smallest castle, sits amid a canal in Hattem Park, just 1 km from Roermond’s center. Its two carriage‑house suites feature box‑spring beds, seating areas, and walk‑in showers. Guests enjoy free breakfast, terrace lunch, and a stylish restaurant offering French‑Mediterranean cuisine, making it a tranquil, culinary gem.

The staff, restaurant, room, and breakfast were all five‑star worthy. Nothing to complain about.

It was a wonderful stay with our dog. The hotel is a dream, beautifully designed with every detail that I couldn’t stop looking at. The staff were super friendly, the food at the restaurant and breakfast were grand. The surroundings are very nice and quiet, and the value for money is excellent. We will definitely return. Nothing negative.

I stayed in a very spacious room that was impeccably clean, well finished, and modern, with no noise at all. We slept well, and the hotel’s location was convenient—just a short half‑hour walk to Roermond’s center and a nearby bus stop. From the outside, the castle looked beautiful. Breakfast was excellent and tasted great. However, the hotel could improve its expectations management by making it clearer that the rooms are in two outbuildings rather than inside the castle itself; the castle interior is inaccessible except for a corridor to the restaurant and terrace, which offers nothing special. We were delayed at reception; staff walked past us until I rang the (hard) bell, and the greeting felt unwelcoming. We never spoke to anyone during our stay, so the personal touch was lacking. The ladies at breakfast were friendly and attentive. We likely had the worst room (Junior Suite, room 1); people on the terrace could see straight into our room, so we kept the black curtains closed all day, missing the light and view. The room was dark and we couldn’t see the castle, which felt disproportionate to the €270 we paid, especially compared to the glowing reviews we saw when booking. The room was large but lacked a toilet fountain and a proper wardrobe; we had to use a shoe rack by the mirror, which was inconvenient. The décor didn’t evoke a castle at all, more like a modern hotel, which was disappointing because we booked for a castle experience. For this price, I’d book elsewhere next time.

The hotel is close to the city center, and despite being near the train station, it’s quiet and low‑lying.
