The spot is definitely in a safe, central neighbourhood and the hotel’s quality standards are very high. Service and dining are outstanding, exactly what you expect from an Italian five‑star property.
“Not worth the money.”
Sorry, but I think I gave the above review just now to the wrong hotel. Please delete my earlier review. This is the one I wanted to send about the Excelsior. A tired old queen who’s slipped a couple of stars. It needs a total upgrade.
“Love Rome. Hotel location is ideal and you can imagine it’s past grandeur but i needs a significant uplift.”
The spot was pretty convenient, but every time I left the room my key card wouldn’t work when I came back, which got really annoying. There was no shower gel, so I had to hit reception twice for a replacement. I left my shoes out to be shined as the in‑room instructions said, yet they were still untouched the next morning. The hotel really needs a serious makeover; the walls need cleaning and repainting.

The building is very pretty, old, no doubt once a work of art. The rooms already look very old, the finishes are deteriorated, the rooms have damp, simple things like the sink keys are rusted, the carpets already look worn, etc…

The building’s architecture is a classic Roman landmark, and the location is great, but the staff—especially the bellhops—were not very friendly.
