The options on Booking were almost none. The place sits about 2 km from the station, but since it faces a road where rickshaws pass, it was easy to catch one whether you were traveling alone or with someone. Overall, the place was dirty. The hot water didn’t work. There was only a blanket without sheets. The staff always gave me a look like “who? what?” which was kind of funny.

They were rude and wouldn’t let us check in even though we had confirmed the room the day before; my partner, a New Zealander, was told to book a different room and she was unhappy, feeling unsafe in an unfamiliar town while traveling with her partner. We told them we were coming back from Nepal after a 9‑hour bus ride, tired and exhausted, yet they turned us away. No assistance—this is a homestay, not a hotel. Beware of this property if you are a female traveler; I would not recommend it.

Staying at Rapti Inn in Gorakhpur was a delight that surpassed every expectation. From the moment I checked in, it felt less like a hotel and more like arriving at a relative’s home—comfortable, welcoming, and genuinely caring. The room was surprisingly spacious, larger than I’d expected for the price, well‑maintained, airy, and fully equipped for a comfortable stay. The bathroom was spotless, with a hygienic band still sealed on the toilet, showing real attention to cleanliness and guest hygiene—details often overlooked elsewhere. The food was another highlight: simple yet delicious and homely—paneer, fresh roti, chawal, tadka dal, and gulab jamun for dessert—all fresh and flavorful; I genuinely enjoyed every bite without any heaviness, reminding me of home‑cooked Indian food rather than typical hotel fare. The staff deserves special mention; they were exceptionally friendly, always smiling (hasmukh), and went out of their way to make conversations feel natural and enjoyable. I actually sat and chatted with them for a while, something that rarely happens in bigger hotels, adding a personal touch to the entire experience. One small incident showed their level of service: during dinner, a little dal accidentally spilled on my bedsheet. I felt embarrassed and even apologized, but the manager himself immediately arranged for the sheet to be changed without any fuss or delay—no lectures, no attitude, just quick, polite action. That kind of responsiveness is rare and speaks volumes about their commitment to guest comfort. Overall, Rapti Inn gave me that rare “ghar jaisi feeling,” the comfort and warmth of being at home while traveling.
