The spot isn’t ideal—Oxford Road is rough with many drug addicts and rough types, though transport links into central Reading are good with regular buses and easy train access; after a 20‑minute struggle to open the key lockbox I finally opened it only to discover it was empty, so I couldn’t get into my room; I tried calling both the property owner and the manager but couldn’t reach anyone for over 30 minutes while I kept trying to get access; after sending an email—my last‑ditch effort before cancelling—I finally got the owner to return and give me the key, which was completely unacceptable as I was waiting in the rain preparing for a presentation; I asked for a discounted rate because of the inconvenience but was flatly refused, being told I’d received a “room upgrade” as compensation (which is false—the room was identical in services and features to the one I had originally booked).
