There are many good hot springs to soak in; the two meals I booked were excellent and I enjoyed them. The comforter was too thick.

We got to soak in three different hotel baths – a rose‑infused bath, an open‑air onsen and a pot‑style soak, all of which were fun. The breakfast buffet offered a huge variety and I ended up eating a lot; the live‑cooking omelet was fluffy and delicious. The only downside was the front door, which was still the old heavy one and was a real hassle to open.

The staff were polite and helpful, and I got to see local folk art, but the facilities feel a bit dated.

“Wonderful rose garden hotel, hot springs, Japanese traditional dance events, delicious food, great fun!”

Hotel Koyokan sits in the lovely Hanamaki area, tucked among mountains, forest, a rose garden and rice paddies, and offers several wonderful hot‑spring baths, a quiet, comfortable room, and a huge spread of Japanese and Western dishes that made both the breakfast and dinner buffets incredibly tasty; the traditional 「おまつり広場」鹿踊り dance with drumming was also fantastic, so we really enjoyed our time there.
