Mount Cook Station Huts

It was a great escape from civilisation in a really cool part of New Zealand. The view of rural New Zealand with wild deer easily spotted from the huts and the excellent sight of the Tasman River meeting Lake Pukaki were perfect.

The property was spotless—one of the cleanest places I’ve seen so far—with an absolutely comfortable mattress. The heating was great, and the mountain views were wonderful for stargazing on clear nights. With only two huts, you don’t share facilities with many people. The gravel road leading to the property was a downside.

A nice rural farm vibe, very isolated, with amazing views of Mount Cook. The road to the station hut is unsealed, meaning a 40‑minute drive on gravel; it’s fine if you’re in a 4‑wheel drive or SUV, but a regular sedan or hatchback will get dirty and may chip rocks without mud flaps—slow down on the gravel.
