Hotel Neptunus

“Camere spaziose, quotidianamente pulite, con veduta sul mare. Staff (Laura e Anna) professionale.”

The hotel is super close to the sea, and my room on the third floor was comfortable and spacious with a transverse view of the beach; cleaning was daily, breakfast was good but didn’t change much during my stay, and the staff (Laura and Anna) were very friendly, professional, and always ready to help. There was a disabled parking spot in the internal parking lot, otherwise public parking was right next door. Overall it was perfect, giving me a 9, but the big disappointment below is the lack of clarity about the tourist tax. It wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the booking that it was an extra, and in all my extensive experience with bookings across Europe and beyond, I’ve never been charged extra because it’s always included in the price paid. Instead, a staff member named Francesco forced me to pay an additional €32 for the tourist tax, claiming it wasn’t included in the reservation cost (which was already €1300). I was deeply disappointed because I don’t think the owners (whom I never met) or any staff member intended to keep customers from coming back in future years. Forcing an extra €32 on a €1302 booking is something I’ve never seen, nor have I heard from friends who use Booking fluently, so I had to revise my overall score from 9 to 3.

The staff were very friendly, the hotel is cute with a great sea view, rooms are cleaned daily, and the room is fairly spacious. It’s close to the beach, where there’s a free beach you can bring your own umbrellas, etc., and you can rinse sand with water. The water entry is smooth. The center of Nettuno is a 20‑30 minute walk. Nearby is a large Conad store and small cafés. Card payments didn’t always work, and we paid the tax in cash. Bring euros because there don’t seem to be exchange offices here; the nearest bank told us only in Rome you can exchange. There is an ATM, our card worked and we could withdraw money. In the room there were ant neighbors; don’t leave food open. They’re sprayed during cleaning but still appear. The double bed was made of two single mattresses and two mattresses that are very uncomfortable, causing back pain in the mornings. The hairdryer is from another era. The plumbing is old but functional. The furniture is old but has some charm. The doors are also old, and you can hear noise from the corridor.

The hotel is excellent with a sea view, a strategic location to reach the beach—just cross the street and it’s done. It’s easy to reach the village of Nettuno with a walk. The staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are spacious, all with a small balcony overlooking the sea.

“Hotel un po’ datato, ma comodissimo e con ottimo ristorante”

The exterior of the property is well maintained, but inside it feels rather dated in style and furnishings; nonetheless the common areas (hall, restaurant, corridors) are clean and tidy, and the room, though dated, is spacious, comfortable, and has an excellent mattress with good soundproofing that ensured a great night's sleep; from my room (and likely all rooms) there’s a wonderful view of the beach below and the entire gulf from Anzio to the Circeo Promontory; breakfast is just enough for salty items and adequate for sweets; the dinner menu, priced at 25 euros, includes a starter, main, side, and fruit, but I assure you that a full meal at Nettuno for that price is not worth it; the location is fantastic, on the southern seafront near the “scacciapensieri” in a quiet area, about ten to fifteen minutes’ walk from the historic city center; the only downside is the lack of a hotel parking lot, though parking is easily found nearby.
