The staff were adorable and very helpful, and there was free parking right across from the building. The room was huge. On the downside, the list of disappointments is long. The hotel clearly has a history of good years, but it now feels extremely dated and, in our view, nothing justifies the rates. We paid 407 € per night in August, making it the most expensive hotel on our entire trip to Japan, even though we stayed only in 4‑ and 5‑star properties that were sometimes much cheaper. At over 400 € a night we expect excellent condition, high‑quality bedding, impeccable cleanliness, and a service level that matches the price. Unfortunately, we were far from that. The whole property feels like it belongs to another era. The bathroom is especially old, with moldy seams and plumbing that is near the end of its life. The bedding is catastrophic and far below what one could reasonably expect from a hotel charging such rates. We also encountered a recurring problem with small insects and spiders in the room every day. That may seem trivial to some, but for a phobic person it quickly becomes very unpleasant. The breakfast was exclusively traditional Japanese. We are in Japan, so it’s normal to offer local cuisine – it’s part of the travel appeal – but this type of breakfast can be difficult for foreign travelers who are not used to it. At this price, offering at least one more accessible option for international guests would be a minimum. In short, if we could have shortened our stay, we would have, and we will definitely not return.

The interior was very clean. It was a Japanese‑style inn, but it didn’t feel old‑fashioned and I could stay comfortably. The staff were also very pleasant. Thank you.

The place offered an open‑air bath, a courtyard, ducks, koi, and a free coffee area among other things.

An absolutely stunning experience! All the hotel staff were extremely friendly and enthusiastic, behaving like hosts welcoming distinguished guests. Even though we could only communicate in English with difficulty, they made great efforts to overcome this barrier and were incredibly patient. The dining experience at the hotel was fantastic, with flavors and dishes that were truly impressive. Every guest dines in a private room. The inn is built around a pond and gardens, a two-story wooden structure that is also very quiet. The rooms include a living room, bedroom, bathroom, shower room, and a balcony—plenty of space even for a family of four without feeling crowded. The hotel also provides shuttle service to and from Shimoda. Despite the language barrier, the driver was very patient with family members who were unexpectedly delayed and couldn't arrive on time. The bathroom hot water is onsen (hot spring) water, but the flow isn't very strong; you can go to the public hot spring bath on the first floor of the hotel. Bus services near the hotel are quite limited. There are no beds—it's tatami flooring
