history

A short history

Pooler began as Station 2 on the Central of Georgia Railway during the 1830s. It took its name from Robert William Pooler, an officer for the railroad company. During the American Civil War, Union forces under General Sherman camped here before capturing Savannah in December 1864.For over a century, Pooler remained an agrarian community surrounded by pine forests. The opening of Interstate 95 and expansion of Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport sparked massive commercial growth starting in the late 1990s.
