The location was fine. The staff were horrible, there was no communication, and they just took your money.

Honestly, I didn’t like it at all. The place is in the middle of the jungle, no air‑conditioning, lots of insects, stained sheets, and the dock needs upkeep. The air circulation is poor and it feels suffocating. The photos are misleading. You can’t swim there because it’s very dirty, and the bathrooms are awful. We only stayed one night because it was already late and we left as soon as morning came. Overall, it needs a lot of maintenance.

The peace and nature connection were unbeatable; we relaxed completely, and it was an amazing experience for both kids and adults. Wi‑Fi and hot water are available (the shower water comes from a well, a bit salty but with good pressure). The kayaks were a nice touch, though one had no stopper, filled with water, and we sank on a paddle. The good thing was we had three kayaks and none had issues. There’s a big grill for barbecues and a great fire pit area for marshmallows with the kids. It’s essential to stop by a supermarket and stock up because there’s nowhere nearby to shop. The caretaker, Francisco, was very attentive and helpful. We never met the manager. The cabin needs maintenance and has many areas for improvement. Cleaning isn’t great; towels and sheets are stained. There were cockroaches in the kitchen and in the room—though it’s a jungle area, roaches on dishes aren’t okay. No coffee maker was present, even though the photos showed a large one for many people; we messaged about it, but no follow‑up. The windows—there are many—have no glass, so wind can blow in. All have mosquito nets, but they’re filthy. The worst part was a dog on the property, chained with a long rope, that bit one of our girls, taking the whole day to travel 50 minutes to Bacalar’s center to find someone to treat her. The cabin’s first‑aid kit was empty, and when I messaged about it, I received no response about the dog’s vaccination status or any assistance. Another issue: the lagoon water here is green and dark, not suitable for swimming. The fridge is tiny for a pantry for 10 people; we stayed four days.

I stayed at a private villa, so there were no other guests besides us, which let us enjoy the whole stay in complete peace and total relaxation. Everything was excellent!
