“a nightmarish hotel on a dream island”
The island around this hotel is beautiful and the restaurant staff are kind, but the whole experience was a nightmare. Check‑in felt like a bad sketch from a Hollywood comedy: “We have a reservation,” “sorry all the rooms are taken,” “yes it’s for these kinds of circumstances that we made a reservation…” and finally a room that wasn’t ready when we arrived. The room itself was fine but had no wifi, which is advertised, so it was hard to plan the rest of the trip. The bathroom shower worked intermittently, sometimes no hot water, sometimes no pressure, and nobody came to fix it because “you only have two nights left, so no need.” The hotel staff were not friendly at all, no smiles, and I felt like a nuisance; the girlfriend didn’t get that treatment because he asked her intrusive questions when I wasn’t there. The restaurant staff were nice, but the hotel staff were not professional. One night I was woken at 1 a.m. by a rat that tickled my ears—yes, a rat. I called reception to report a rat under the desk that had been there for 30 minutes, and the gentleman arrived nonchalantly as if it were normal. The worst part was that when we showed him the rat had urinated on our bed while we slept, he didn’t even offer new sheets. In short, the island is magnificent and worth the detour, but avoid this hotel—pay me to set foot there again!
