The property sits right in the middle of the canyon, making it easy to reach Spearfish and Deadwood/Lead, and there are plenty of trails nearby. The lodge had all the usual amenities except for its own restaurant, but there is one across the street. We enjoyed the common area with comfy chairs, a cathedral ceiling, a fireplace, and other nice touches—it was a great spot to unwind. We’d definitely come back. The canyon area is beautiful. The downside is that the single nearby restaurant can get crowded with travelers on buses, and the prices are high; we dealt with that by bringing snacks and breakfast items from nearby places.

The view from our room was amazing, we hit several hiking trails, the hot tub was clean and had a great view, and we liked the robes that were in the room.

Breakfast was excellent with pancakes, French toast, orange juice, and coffee; the server was friendly and helped us order, the atmosphere was lovely, and we could also sit on the patio to enjoy the canyon views.

The lodge’s location was pristine and the building itself beautiful, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, but the restaurant was only average; my husband loved the elk bites, while the Walleye was just okay.
