Hermitage Huisies, a short five‑minute drive from Swellendam centre, sits amid expansive gardens with mountain vistas and a tranquil dam. Each self‑catering unit features a kitchen, dining area, heating panels, fans, private BBQ and luxury pocket‑spring beds with linens. Guests enjoy on‑site horses, a stream, play area, and nearby golf, hiking, cycling, berry picking, honey tasting, and horse riding; Marloth Nature Reserve lies 3 km away.

The place was quiet, safe, and had a cozy hidden charm with a clean unit. The owner lives on the property, so keep noise down at night. I had to pay an extra R450 per night to use the hot tub on top of the accommodation cost, and wood was R50 per bag.

We absolutely loved staying at Hermitage Huisies. The farm was beautiful, peaceful, and surrounded by nature and animals, making for a wonderful experience. We felt very safe the whole time, and the owner personally welcomed us and was very kind and welcoming. We only wish we could have stayed longer! We would have appreciated more lighting around the farm, especially at night, and it would have been more convenient to have a single tap with both hot and cold water instead of separate ones.

The Rose cottage offered simple comfort, with all the essential equipment present. We enjoyed the farm’s peacefulness in a beautiful setting overlooking the mountains. We liked the portable radiators that could be moved from room to room to warm up cold evenings and mornings in winter.

The fresh air, the sound of the river after the rain, the warm kolkol bath, the TV and Wi‑Fi when it was raining, and the fact that it wasn’t too far from a store made it just so relaxing. The weather was the only downside.
