The Estoril, a stone‑built Victorian hotel in Penzance, preserves original open fires, stained‑glass windows and individually styled rooms, each featuring distinct décor, feature beds or sea views. Located 250 m from the Western Promenade and beach, it offers free Wi‑Fi, a communal lounge with kitchenette, and easy access to town restaurants, pubs, shops and nearby attractions such as St Ives and Lands End.

The location was convenient, but it felt a bit like staying in a granny’s attic.

The location was good and I liked the communal area that had a fridge, toaster, and kettle. However, our room wasn’t particularly clean, needed a refresh, and felt stuffy with a mild drain smell.

Our stay at Estoril was lovely; the room was small but well provided, the bed was comfy, and the shower in the bathroom was great. A common sitting room downstairs offered tea and coffee, which was a nice touch. The host was friendly and helpful. Street parking was a bit of a challenge during the day, but overnight it worked well.

The location was good, and it was nice to have cereal and milk left for breakfast, plus some nice artefacts. The room, however, needed a complete redecoration and refurbishment, with old and rotting windows, tired furnishings, and a worn bathroom. It could be lovely as a building but needs better maintenance and decoration; it’s a shame because I was looking for a regular place to stay on frequent visits to Penzance, but it wasn’t comfortable enough. It definitely needs updating to become lovely.
