“Room was just okay. Got off to a bad start with the check-in fiasco.”
The price was fair compared to other spots in Garden City, but it still felt steep for a low‑budget motel in a tiny town; in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico I've stayed at nicer motels that were $10‑15 cheaper per night. When we arrived, nobody was at the front desk—my bell rang but no one answered. I dialed the number on a note at the counter, only to hit a voicemail; that phone was a cordless unit on a small table inside the office. I almost left, thinking we couldn't stay and would need a refund, when a young woman finally walked in and checked us in. She had been elsewhere on the property. Our wait in the office was about 15‑20 minutes, so clearly they need more than one staff member on duty. The parking lot also had trash on it.
