It felt like a Safari Camp with an “Out of Africa” vibe: ultra‑comfortable tents in a wild setting, wildlife just meters away, gourmet meals skillfully prepared by the chef, and a warm, friendly service.

Absolutely fantastic! The real African feel, comfy tent, great bed, cozy duvet, hot kettle and water, the bathroom, the outdoor seating, the gentle, modest staff who cooked wonderfully and kept everything spot‑on; Crystal and Mr. T made our stay the best. Thanks and see you next time ❤️

Breakfast was British, dinner was served in dim light with no choice and it was hard to tell what was being offered, though it was always plentiful. The lodge was very plain and overrated, the bathrooms offered no comfort, the hosts were constantly present and complaining (Marge) often, John talked nonstop and disrupted the nature experience, yet he is a seasoned guide who sometimes gets too close to the animals. During the game drive the guides kept shouting over the radio at full volume, audible and annoying to guests; a headset would be desirable, as it is used in other lodges like Marataba Lodge. The staff were already loud and disruptive early in the morning.

From the instant we stepped onto the grounds of Abelana Safari Camp, it was clear we were in for something special, and the experience did indeed surpass every expectation. Marge and John stood out as the highlights of our stay, their warmth, hospitality, and commitment to making our visit unforgettable shining through every interaction. The Abelana Game Reserve itself was breathtaking, offering diverse wildlife, expansive landscapes, and peaceful settings. The lodgings struck the right balance between luxury and nature. Marge and John’s personal touch made all the difference: they greeted us warmly, ensured we were settled before giving a brief tour, and were always ready to answer questions or give advice. The guided game drives with John were a particular highlight; his expertise in wildlife, conservation, geology, and astronomy turned each drive into an informative and genuinely enjoyable experience. We saw an impressive array of animals—majestic rhinos, lions, elusive predators—and John’s skill at spotting wildlife from a distance was truly remarkable. With Marge and John as hosts, Abelana Safari Camp became a memorable, heartwarming adventure, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an unforgettable safari with hosts who genuinely care about making your stay extraordinary.

Their personalisation was superb—they paid attention to us and went out of their way to accommodate us, noticing all the little things that made us feel at home. The hosts, John and his wife, were simply awesome. Wow. Nothing about the place was lacking; the reserve is a bit dense, but John compensated by safely tracking lion, cheetah, and rhino on foot to capture better photos. Excellent work.
