When you open the front door, you see Lake Biwa; the sunrise time, the water surface, the waves, the white heron, and the flock of geese—all were a dreamlike moment. The couple took great care of us. All about seven rooms were fully occupied, and there were many parts that had to be shared, but the people were all very considerate, and it was quiet at night. It would have been better if the bathroom and toilet were separated for men and women.

The spot was great, just a 5–6 minute walk from HIRA Station. The place works like a shared house with about 5–8 rooms, and the biggest room can hold up to five people. We stayed in a tatami room that had air conditioning, a fan, a table, and face and bath towels, so it was very comfortable. The location is not only close to the station but also near the beach, letting you see a variety of activities all day. There’s no convenience store nearby, so bring what you need ahead of time. We rented a BBQ set and they supplied all the gear, utensils, and dishes. The common area had a fridge, hot water, a water dispenser, and free coffee and tea. Even though it was windy, we still had a blast, and there were others renting a trampoline too. The staff were very calm and kind, and they helped us a lot—thanks a ton for the hospitality. The only thing that bothered me was the toilet seat cover; it was hard to clean the seat before using it, and I worried about leaving pee or stains on the fabric. It might be handy in winter, but in summer it’s a bit annoying and I was concerned about dirt sticking to the cover.

It was a real haven of peace with a beautiful view of the lake from the room, matching the listing with comfy bedding and storage. The shared shower area was always clean and organized. We could store groceries in the fridge with a microwave, have hot water, coffee, and tea—very appreciated. The host was welcoming and smiling, and we received a small gift to taste a Japanese specialty, which we liked. The train stop nearby was ideal. The only downside is that the price doesn’t reflect the quality and location; it might be different in peak summer, but in winter I think the rate should be much lower. You need to take the train to reach points of interest, adding to the budget after a few days, and you must shop for supplies since there’s no nearby store. If you’re driving, that’s not an issue, of course.
