“Loved it here. Could have stayed longer and the staff are excellent. Had one of the most stress free holidays ever.”
It isn’t a flashy five‑star resort; it’s quite rustic with traditional bungalows and no swimming pool, but that was what a friend who’d stayed there before recommended. I wanted a natural spot close to the beach, and this was perfect—great setting and lovely site. We stayed in the Reef House, which is large enough for two couples with plenty of space between the two bedrooms. The bathrooms are outdoors but very practical for beach‑style living, always hot water, and it was actually fun. The staff were awesome—super helpful and nothing was too much trouble; they really took care of us. On our last day we checked out early and they arranged takeaway breakfast boxes with pastries, fresh fruit, and drinks. Mr Doi checked in daily, was available for trip suggestions, and helped with activities. Breakfast at Mango Bay was superb and included; we didn’t need to eat during the day after that meal—there were plenty of cooked options, fresh fruit, yoghurt, granola, cakes, pastries, juices, and great coffee. We visited during the rainy season and were lucky; it rained a few times but we relaxed on the beach whenever we weren’t on an activity or tour. The beach stays clean, though waves were strong this time of year—good swimmers and surfers didn’t mind; some days the waves were great and we had the beach to ourselves. Staff kept an eye out and would advise on sea conditions if they thought it was too rough. There’s plenty of wildlife—lots of lizards, toads, frogs, huge butterflies, a praying mantis, a snake, and a flying squirrel, which we loved. Nature in Vietnam is part of the experience, and Mango Bay has it. Free morning yoga, bikes, kayaks, bodyboarding for the waves, and nice shady loungers on the beach. We loved it here, but some people might find it a bit basic. The restaurant is quite expensive for Vietnam; we ate there a few evenings and the food was really great, and the outdoor space overlooking the sea is worth a premium. Compared to Europe or America it’s still excellent value.
