“Not an Anantara experience”
The private island setting is unique, surrounded by wildlife, and most of the staff were friendly; the beach side was empty and pleasant, though a few drinks could have been offered there too, and we missed a beach bar option. The walls were very thin, so we could hear everything from neighboring rooms and there was an odd smell. The hotel restaurant, Shams, was a disaster: it was full, smoke from the kitchen filled the air, so we had to sit outside with our 3‑month‑old baby waiting 45 minutes for food in 40‑degree weather; the table was swarming with cockroaches and we even saw a dead one floating in the pool, so we decided not to use the pool with our baby. Breakfast was decent but the service was very slow. When we called guest relations they almost never answered. At check‑in we were offered stale coffee candy instead of fresh dates.
