“A fair accommodation for the price, but not as advertised”

The bed was comfortable, the spot was great for reaching the Medina without too much bustle, and breakfast was decent. However, a lot of over‑advertising and under‑delivering happened. The superior room I booked was said to have a private bathroom, but it turned out to be shared with another room, and the lock key didn’t work. The shower never got hotter than lukewarm, and one morning I found the owner’s cute cat had turned it into a litter box. The place claimed to have air conditioning, yet the controller was missing and the owner didn’t respond to messages. They also advertised “soundproofing,” but I could hear every door slam and even whispered conversations across the hall at night.

We had a lovely stay at Dar Atlas overall, and I especially want to thank the wonderful lady who looked after us. She was incredibly kind, friendly, helpful, and accommodating, always going out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The hotel was quite clean, and she kept everything tidy and well looked after. She also prepared a lovely breakfast for us every morning, which we really enjoyed. Her warm and welcoming nature made us feel very comfortable and well cared for. There was, however, one serious safety incident that we feel is important to mention. The mirror attached to the door came loose and fell toward our baby, who was in his crib at the time. Thankfully, he was only inches away and was not hurt, but it was a very frightening moment for us and could have had a much more serious outcome. We would strongly recommend that the hotel checks and secures the mirrors and other fixtures properly to prevent anything similar happening in the future.

The welcome was friendly and professional. Being close to Bab Boujloud, the calm, the comfort of Dar Atlas, and the serenity were all great. Nothing to add.

A very atmospheric place. Conveniently located in the heart of the old town, but on a quiet street. The host was very attentive and friendly. Excellent value for money. The best choice for a budget traveler. A few more signs wouldn’t hurt, but that’s a general issue with accommodations in all medinas in Morocco. Prepare a little guide for street helpers, because without them you’ll have a hard time finding the building. Google Maps led me to another place that was 100 meters from the accommodation.

The welcome and service: The highlight of this place is the kindness, goodwill, and dedication of Iman. Her welcome and service deserve recognition because she sincerely does her best with what she has. Bedding: the bed is well made and the mattress comfortable; we slept well. The presence of the cat comforted us 🐱. Urgent renovation needed: The riad really needs comprehensive work. The overall condition is degraded and the accommodation sorely lacks comfort and safety. Hygiene and wear: cleaning is lacking. We find many rusty items and a massive presence of limescale in the bathroom fixtures. Dangerous installations: The riad lacks light. Electrical outlets and nails protrude dangerously from walls, and several tiles detach and fall in the stairs and common areas. Thermal discomfort and ventilation: heat and humidity are simply awful in the common areas due to lack of ventilation. The terrace is unusable in high heat. Inappropriate and risky for children: The accommodation is not suitable for a family at all. The stairs are extremely narrow and the presence of defective elements makes the place especially risky with children. Breakfast was very insufficient: it was very sparse and many items were missing. We were still hungry when leaving the riad. This experience disturbed us throughout the stay. Despite Iman’s efforts, the structure of the riad itself does not allow for a good holiday.
