It felt like a new version of Fawlty Towers—bizarre but not horrible, and we laughed a lot; it was the hottest day of the year and the kitchen was shut because it was too hot, so we had no air‑con and were exhausted after a long day of travel. They still served us a good Beef and Mushroom Stroganoff meal, and the landlady, clearly based on a John Cheese character, was funny and didn’t hold back with language, saying “It’s too f**king hot to p*ss about” when my mate got his pin wrong. We laughed out loud, but if you can’t tolerate this, don’t book here. The rooms were a bit dated but acceptable for the money and clean. The bar closed before 9pm, so we had to bring our own beer and drink it in the garden or rooms on the second night—if you need a drink late, that’s your fault. We’re not big drinkers, but we’re not kids who need to go to bed early either. If you’re okay with the early closure, go ahead; otherwise find something more refined (and probably pay more). The only other attraction is the pub and possibly good walks; it’s great for events at Radley Hall Estate but you’ll still need to drive or ride there. In short, if you want to be an extra in an adults‑only living comedy series, book and enjoy; if not, look elsewhere.
