Located on the banks of the Sundays River, Dungbeetle River Lodge offers safari-style accommodations with private bathrooms, coffee/tea facilities, and minibars in spacious rooms and suites. Enjoy river views from the terrace decks and savor a breakfast buffet featuring home-baked breads, yogurt, eggs, and fresh fruit juice. Arrange tours to Addo Elephant National Park or reserve a shuttle to Port Elizabeth Airport, just 3.5 km and 30 minutes away, respectively.

Finally a hotel with the character I want for a summer getaway. Leona, the lovely host, takes care of everything with heart. The rooms are clean. I’ll come back when I visit Colchester again.

The resort is beautiful and well‑maintained. We stayed in the lodge with three bedrooms and a large terrace overlooking the Sunday River and were thrilled. Breakfast was excellent, featuring freshly baked bread, homemade jams, and an “English breakfast” with various options. You can book Addo Elephant tours directly from the lodge. Chris, our friendly guide, showed us many animals we hadn’t seen in our own car a few years ago. It was a wonderful trip! You can also book the Schotia Safari (half‑ or full‑day) from the resort; the drive to Schotia takes about 15‑20 minutes. We highly recommend that guided tour. By the way, we were four in Colchester at Grunters and Taste of Africa and couldn’t understand the sometimes negative reviews. At Grunters we had tasty fish and chips; at Taste of Africa we tried various dishes, all of which tasted good. We were told not to order pizza because it wasn’t that great.

The staff were friendly and the location right on the river was great. Breakfast was excellent. The facilities feel a bit dated.
