“Good value for money stay.”
The place is in a good spot and the room was comfortable, but the air‑con rattled so I had to switch it off.
“Comfortable hotel for York city”
The hotel was very comfortable and well‑located a short walk from York city centre. Breakfast and dinner were good, and the selection of wines and beers was interesting. We upgraded to a junior suite on arrival for a small extra charge, which was good value. York has plenty to see – the Minster, city walls, railway museum and ancient streets – and the locals are friendly; we’ve stayed in York many times.
“Our wonderful stay at the Hotel de Vin”
We appreciated the friendly greeting from the receptionist on arrival, the vodka martini made by Ben the bartender, the Sunday roast dinner in the dining room as recommended by Michelle, the size of our bedroom and the novelty of a “window” in the bathroom, the hotel’s location near the racecourse and easy access to city sights, the variety of foods at breakfast including a great full English cooked to order, and the helpful, friendly staff – especially Michelle in the dining room. We couldn’t fault this hotel.
“Excellent hotel with friendly helpful staff.”
The staff were great and the bedroom was lovely with a comfy bed.
“Hotel Du Vin”
I’ve been staying at this hotel for the last 12 years, trying many rooms. The location is spot on for visiting York, within walking distance of all the shops, restaurants and the castle. The building itself is beautiful, the staff are always friendly and some go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. There’s a restaurant and bar that’s helpful, you can order room service, and you can even bring your dog. However, compared to past experience the food isn’t as good, and the lack of choices disappointed me. The room needs updating: the sockets in ours didn’t work, and the staff promised to have someone look at it. The bathroom looked neglected, worn and tired; I was excited for a claw bath, but it had seen better days. The bed was uncomfortable because they used two single beds and jammed them together to make a larger bed, which didn’t feel comfy. We stayed in the Junior Suite, and for what we paid I don’t think it was worth it. This isn’t the first time the room let us down, but the food was great last time. I gave this stay a chance, but it really let me down.
