“Leave the drunk tourists behind in the Old Quarter and have a relaxing stay here instead!”
I was a bit wary of the glowing reviews, yet I booked the place anyway and now I’m part of the chorus of praise. I stayed in Nghia’s beautifully renovated home, and he turned out to be the kindest, most thoughtful host I’ve ever met. He even handed me mooncakes—those rare seasonal treats—on my last day after I mentioned wanting some. My room came with an attached study nook, and the balcony opens onto an internal light well above the entrance, creating an air gap that keeps traffic noise out. The room and its bathroom were roomy, spotless, and comfortable, exactly as shown in the photos. The location is packed with great local spots within walking distance: cafes like Toka Coffee, The Running Bean, Phuc Long, Katinat; Vietnamese eats such as Bánh Cuốn Bà Hoành, Bánh Mỳ Phố Huế, Bún chả Hương Liên; bakeries like Tiệm Bánh Hoan and Cốm Phố Xưa; Japanese fare at MATSUKI Izakaya on the same street. The Old Quarter is just a short motorcycle ride away, and the West Lake expat enclave takes a slightly longer ride. A bicycle is available if you want one. It’s a lovely spot for a quieter, more local Hanoi experience. Highly recommended.
