“I feel nauseous when I think of this hotel.”
The first night felt charming; they charge high‑end rates for a courtyard with beautiful landscaping, fire pits, string lights, and piped music, and the groundskeeping team was friendly and worked hard to clear leaves after a windstorm. Daniel at check‑in was a gem—down‑to‑earth, funny, kind, and he waived the pet fee for my service dog. The next morning I wanted to stay an extra night, but only had a one‑night reservation, so I went to the lobby to extend it in person and that’s when it went downhill. First, they tried to charge me a pet fee for the second night, even though it was a per‑stay charge already waived, giving the impression they wanted to squeeze an extra $50. Second, the high‑end rates don’t match the rooms: they’re mostly clean with minimalist but cozy decor, the bed is comfortable, but there were mold and mildew on the shower stall, a cracked table lamp on a nightstand, and for $420–$430 a night the rooms should be cleaner and have broken decor replaced. Even fixing those issues, the complete lack of privacy and the management’s non‑response to guest concerns are 100% dealbreakers for me. Unfortunately a group party checked into the rooms surrounding mine; when they arrived one guy shouted to his friends, “Dude, we got room X, what room did you get?” By around 6 or 7 PM they were gathered in the room next door yelling at the USC game, then moved to the bocce ball court outside as it got dark, continuing to get wasted. The front desk came out to talk with them, and one woman then headed inside the opposite room next door. I heard her shouting to her friend about Monica and Chandler on a show called “Friends” that she just started watching. There was zero privacy between our rooms. The worst part: her partner came in and they started having sex, with him slapping and spanking her, both moaning and groaning, and her repeating his name over and over. It was cringe to hear, but the worst part is that she had just yelled, “I’m so effing drunk right now!” As an SA survivor, it was incredibly traumatizing; guys who do that to drunk women completely disgust me. I could not fall asleep until 4 AM. When I checked out, I asked that somebody follow up with me, and I requested the same thing in an email survey a couple days later. Two weeks later, their only response was to refund 12% of my stay, $105+ on an $850+ stay. When I think of this hotel, I feel absolutely nauseated.
