I stayed in the main building of a little hilltop village called Sekenani, just a few minutes from the gate. The property has two buildings and a tent, and our room was one of four in the main building, complete with a bathroom. It felt cozy and clean, and the veranda was great for daytime relaxation. The grounds are green and shaded, which helped us sleep well in the summer with just a fan. Levis, the main guest contact, was a kind, fun young man who arranged everything, even game drives. The food was really good and the staff looked after us nicely. We had a bonfire one evening, and our game drive was amazing— the driver knew exactly where to find the animals and how to position the vehicle, so we saw all the Big 5. Breakfast and lunch were served under a tree, making the whole experience unforgettable. I highly recommend it if you want a more affordable, “local” experience. The only downsides were the expected local neighborhood noises, occasional cattle smells, and some flies, but these didn’t detract from the genuine experience of getting to know the staff and seeing local life as it is, which I preferred over a sterile lodge. Plus, the cost was much more digestible.
